Natural Snowflake Obsidian Stone Pendant
Snowflake Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, primarily black with white or grey, sunburst-shaped inclusions known as phenocrysts (cristobalite). It forms when felsic lava cools rapidly, preventing full crystal growth, and is often prized for its soothing and protective energy.
Key Characteristics:
- Appearance: Shiny black surface with star-shaped, white patches (spherulites).
- Composition: Volcanic glass (SiO2) with inclusions of cristobalite.
- Hardness: 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale.
- Locations: Found worldwide, including the US, Italy, and Scotland.
Uses & Care:
- Metaphysical: Often used for grounding, balancing, and releasing negative habits.
- Lapidary: Frequently cut into cabochons for jewelry or sold as tumbled stones.
- Care: Clean with mild soap and warm water. It is relatively easy to scratch and can be fragile if chipped, so store it carefully.
Authenticity:
Real snowflake obsidian is matte to glassy in texture, with the white patches visibly embedded within the stone rather than painted on top.
